Aliena

Aliena unfolds over 70 minutes in a minimalist space sculpted by carefully crafted lighting that shapes the dancers' bodies, creating shadows and contrasts that highlight the plasticity of form. The stage becomes a place of metamorphosis and transformation, where Olivia Spinelli’s costumes — with their iridescent surfaces and hybrid textures — emphasize this duality, turning the body into an ever-changing landscape. Faux furs, technical fabrics, and graphic patterns intertwine with bare skin, forming a visually powerful and evocative image. The original music composed by GP Cremonini creates a soundscape that evolves in synchrony with the dancers’ movements. Each sound, each melody seems to emerge directly from the performers’ gestures, expanding and intensifying their meaning.

This new work is an immersion into the creative mind of Staccioli, always in search of new forms of expression.
It is an invitation to celebrate diversity in all its forms — a journey guided by a solitary figure who moves between presence and absence. The six Kataklò dancers, with their extreme musculature and fluid yet unusual movements, shape and reshape their forms continuously, becoming transient works of art that explore the boundary between form and content. With her unique aesthetic, Staccioli rejects perfection in favor of imperfection, celebrating the diversity and individuality of each body. Aliena is a constant provocation, a response to the criticism that has accompanied Staccioli’s career. With irony and introspection, the choreographer overturns prejudice, turning her "peculiarities" into strengths. For her, dance is not a technical demonstration but an experience, a search beyond the confines of established frameworks. Every gesture becomes a challenge — a reclaiming of the body over its limits. The beauty in Aliena lies not in formal perfection but in the expressive power of the imperfect gesture, which gives rise to a new aesthetic. Every imperfection becomes a distinctive mark, an affirmation of individuality.

Her ability to shape human material by blending athletic and choreographic gestures has led to the emergence of a unique stylistic signature. Over more than three decades, Giulia Staccioli has, in effect, created a new genre and inspired entire generations of dance artists, crafting a unique style that has captivated audiences around the world.

Her new show, Aliena, stands as the artistic manifesto of this extraordinary journey into the world of dance — the culmination of thirty years of creation, its ultimate and total synthesis, highlighting her singular vision and her ability to create a powerful and unforgettable experience for the audience.
